Kidnapped!

Kidnapped!
Want your character to be kidnapped by the Black Mist?

Fill out a form here and we'll inform you if your request was approved or not!

You must choose and item that will be used as the item of transport. When the Strangeling calls your rescuer, he/she must touch it to be transported into your character's worst nightmare/greatest desire.

It will be their goal to get the kidnapped to realize that they’re in nothing but an illusion, believe the rescuer(s) sincerity, and/or complete another scenario that you come up with. Once any combination of those is completed, getting the kidnapped to touch the item will allow all of them to return to the real world. Typically, touching the item will do nothing until the scenarios are completed.

This is an opportunity for major CR, regardless of whether the rescue is a success or a failure; however, there is a possibility of it having a very negative impact on your character. Make sure you’re ready to play out the aftermath of a rescue or fail!rescue before you sign up.

You may sign up at any time to be put into the draw for a rescue, even if there are no dates scheduled yet. If you also signed up any of your characters for confrontations, you will only be able to play out one of the two in a single BME. Your name will remain in the draw for whichever one you were not picked from.

The next date for Kidnappings will occur on:

TBA

The next calling will occur on:

TBA

And last until

TBA

Rules:

01. You will be warned a week in advance if your character is chosen; use this time to figure out what you want to happen.

02. If your character is successfully rescued, they will retain all their memories, including those of the rescue.

03. If no one comes to rescue your character, he/she will lose all memories of those who were called.

04. Rescues are not easy tasks; the illusions the Mist provides the kidnapped feel completely and utterly realistic, even if they aren't, and false memories to further that illusion aren't uncommon. Both characters essentially will have to bare their souls to one another to try and help the kidnapped realize it’s only an illusion. Some rescues are shorter than others, but should have some length to it; in other words, we don’t want to see rescues over in as little as ten comments. Make the most out of it!

05. Rescues are played out in the Log comm; please follow the posting format, as well as tag the entry with the !rescue tag.

06. If the rescue becomes too intense for any of the parties involved, or if you hit a creative roadblock which nobody can overcome, you do not have to finish it. However, the consequence for this is the same as a fail!rescue.

Key Points:

01. Communication is key. Constantly communicate with your rescuer(s). Because of the material, it’s not uncommon to hit brick walls in the imagination department; throw around ideas with one another and make sure everyone involved is ok with the ideas.

Rescuees:
Be specific and to the point about what you want to happen in the Rescue.
Point out things you do not want due to personal triggers or “squirkiness”.
Provide the scenario for the rescue.

Rescuers:
Be specific and to the point about what you are and aren’t okay with happening.
Be open to asking questions/advice, as well as offering up ideas.

03. Don't god-mod the situation on EITHER SIDE unless you have been given explicit permission. This is a rare opportunity with in our RP to have the laws of the universe absolutely flipped on their head; however, we don't want this to become a frustrating situation for any muns. Muses, yes. Muns, no.

03. This is a chance for major CR. View this as a growing point for one or more of the characters involved. It doesn't always have to be the person being rescued, it can be the rescuee who discovers something about themselves. It can even be both discovering something about one another, good or bad. There are endless possibilities on how to handle this. Remember, this isn’t a "save the damsel in distress and be regarded as a hero" type of ordeal; this is an opportunity for eye-opening and realizations.

Each rescue is unique in how the characters grow. Sometimes it’s only a little, but leads to more character development later down the road; sometimes it’s a lot, but it's kept inside. Regardless, it always helps to have a general idea of how to go about this in mind.

04. There are two different illusion categories you can stick your character in when they are kidnapped: their worst nightmare or their greatest desire.

Choose wisely.

Consequences

Failing

The kidnapped remember absolutely nothing about those who were called and/or those who came to rescue them. Even if those memories stretch back before their Academy days, they will be lost; it’s up to you to decide for how long, though it’s typically two to three months at the least.

Some have vague recollections, phantom pains, and brief flashbacks (especially during the following BMEs) from their fail!rescue. Others can’t remember a thing at all. Once again, this is up to your discretion.

The rescuer(s) get to deal with the guilt of knowing they failed, usually intensified by the kidnapped eventually returning with no memory of them. Rescuers can feel phantom pains (if they were inured at all in the rescue) for up to three weeks, and can recall the rescue with and unnatural and unparalleled clarity.

Dying in a rescue

If the kidnapped dies, it’s an automatic fail!rescue.

If one of the rescuers die, they wake up “unharmed” in the real world (quotations are for the injuries listed below). However, they have to live with memory of dying in perfect clarity.

If only one rescuer comes for the kidnapped and they die, the kidnapped are still trapped in the illusion. Unless a rare and special situation, such as a second rescue attempt, is approved by a mod, the result will end up the same as a fail!rescue.

Injuries

Serious wounds, such as broken bones, concussions, gashes, internal bleeding, etc., do NOT carry over into the real world; however, bruising where the wounds were and nasty phantom pains aren’t uncommon.
